What we do

Who we are

Nishkam School Trust (NST) is a pioneering group of academy schools with a Sikh ethos, multi-faith, virtues-led’ approach to education.  We are inspired by the inter-religious legacy of the Sikh faith.  We believe that our approach to education can be more than simply a means to acquiring factual knowledge. It can engage pupils more fully to what it might mean to be of the highest of human virtue and engage in the question of the purpose of life and beyond.

NST has grown since the first wave of free schools in 2011; we now have the privilege of educating more than 2500 students across 5 schools and 2 nurseries in the West Midlands and West London.

How are we different

Nishkam Schools are Sikh ethos multi-faith schools which take a distinctive approach compared to many traditional faith schools.

The Sikh dharam (faith or religious responsibility) is emphatic in respecting all faiths and not seeking converts, maximising our contribution towards a cohesive society. It has a unique multi-faith, virtues-led approach and the Schools reflect this by positively nurturing children of all faiths and those of no particular belief. Worshipping collectively and within specific faith groups is an innovative characteristic of the Schools, as children learn from faith, not just about faith.
