A message from the Birmingham City Council Public Health Team
"In addition to the growing number of bubbles self-isolating due to positive tests, we know that the national issue around testing capacity is currently affecting attendance at many schools. Like you, we are concerned about the disruption to pupils’ education that is resulting from pupils and staff having to stay at home while waiting for a test.
Along with Public Health Birmingham we are working on potential local solutions to this issue as well as lobbying NHS Test and Trace for a rapid solution. We will keep schools informed as more information about these solutions is available.
Best wishes,
BCC Public Health Team"

Update - Friday 29th May 2020
Dear parents/carers,
A short note to remind you that NHSB reopens on Monday, June 1 to the children of key workers only.
May I remind you that if you do send your child to school on Monday, because you are a key worker, if they have not been with us since the lockdown on March 20 then you will need to offer proof of your occupation.
We all hope that the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday, May 24 of an ‘easing’ of lockdown measures can be sustained. You will have heard that this applies to secondary schools with effect from June 15. Currently, we are reviewing the guidance that was issued by the government on May 25 about exactly what that ‘wider reopening’ to students in years 10 and 12 only will look like. Again, we will write out ahead of that time with our considered response.
My sense is that even with a slightly ‘wider reopening’, remote learning will remain the principal method of delivering education to our pupils. At the same time, I know that you will continue to emphasise the importance and significance of our ‘faith inspired, virtues led’ approach to education. Your prayers support both you and others, our virtues help us to find the positives in what are extremely challenging times. We cannot predict the future but children benefit from optimism, love and support and that is something that, as adults, we are all able to offer.
KR,
Mr Kearns

Update - Tuesday 12th May 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
I am sure you will have heard the Prime Minister’s speech on Sunday May 10, in which it was announced that a phased return to school could begin from as early as 1st June for younger children in Reception classes, Year 1 and Year 6.
He also said, 'Our ambition is that secondary pupils facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays.'
So, for the time being, nothing has changed.
As further details of these plans are sent to us by the Department for Education, the school’s Senior Leadership Team will be meeting to discuss all aspects of re-opening in consultation with other Nishkam School Trust leaders, local head teachers and national organisations. Please bear with us while we put our plans in place and be assured that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a safe re-opening for your children and our staff when the moment comes. As soon as plans are finalised, we will let you know.
Thank you for your on-going support of your child’s education and the school.
Kind Regards,
Mr Kearns

Kooth - Online mental health support for all Birmingham children and young people aged 11-25
Birmingham Local Authority launched 'Kooth' an online mental health support platform for all Birmingham children and young people aged 11 – 25, on 13 April 2020.
Since launch, they have had a really positive response from children and young people, and continue to work across the different agencies in Birmingham to ensure that as many young people as possible are aware of, and have access to this support.
Birmingham Statistics - 13th April to 25th April 2020
Generally, comments, discussion board themes and peer discussion have centred on the following:
- Issues around school closures & exam cancellations
- Family relationships
- Domestic Violence
- Concerns from children of parents with substance misuse issues
Clearly, as the situation around COVID-19 remains uncertain, it is of paramount importance that we continue to promote this service to all our Children and Young People across the City in order to alleviate any potential anxieties, as well as to provide a point of escalation for more serious concerns.

Coronavirus Update: Friday 17th April 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
We hope you and your families are all safe and well. As we are sure you will have heard based on the announcement from the Foreign Secretary on the 16 April 2020, the country will remain in lockdown for at least a further 3 weeks, so until we communicate otherwise, the school will stay closed for the majority of pupils and remain open for the children of critical workers. Our teachers will continue to set online learning. Thank you for your ongoing support through these difficult times.
Kind regards

Coronavirus Update: 25 March 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
Please see the latest guidance from the DfE dated 24 March 2020, detailing how you can help to support the implementation of social distancing at our school:
- Please do not visit the school if you are displaying any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)or send your child into school if they are displaying any symptoms – follow the self-isolation guidelines from the government https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection
- If you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your condition gets worse, or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days, then use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service. If you do not have Internet access, call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999
- Consider how your child is travelling to and from school – try to reduce any unnecessary travel on coaches, buses or public transport
- Please do not gather together in groups on or around the site.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping to keep our pupils and staff as safe as possible at this time.
Kind regards
