Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Nishkam High School Birmingham. I hope that as you explore our website, you will begin to discover what makes our school such a special place and gain a real sense of the opportunities, experiences and care we offer to every member of our Nishkam family.

Nishkam High School Birmingham is  faith-inspired and virtues-led; a Sikh school rooted in a strong multi-faith ethos. We are proud to welcome children and staff of all faiths and none, and to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community. At the heart of everything we do is a deep belief in the dignity, potential and uniqueness of every child.

Our fundamental belief at Nishkam is simple: every single child can and will achieve. We aspire for excellence in all that we do, recognising that we are all lifelong learners with the capacity to grow, flourish and become the very best versions of ourselves. We strive each day to nurture our pupils spiritually and academically.

Our GCSE outcomes have consistently placed us in the top 5% nationally for progress and the top 10% for attainment. Each year, the vast majority of our sixth form students secure places at their first-choice university, with many progressing to Russell Group universities. While I am incredibly proud of these achievements, I am proudest of the wonderful young people we send out into the world: kind, compassionate, confident and respectful young adults who understand the importance of serving others and who are committed to making a positive difference to society.

Our language of virtues is woven through every aspect of school life. Our curriculum, pedagogy and pastoral systems are all underpinned by our Golden Threads. Through the core virtues of love, forgiveness, peace and trust in God, we encourage our pupils to reflect on their relationship with God, develop a strong sense of purpose and learn to serve Him, and one another, in all that they do.

While we hope our website will give you a flavour of who we are, there is no better way to experience Nishkam than by visiting us. I warmly encourage anyone considering joining our school community to come and spend time with us: join us for collective worship, walk our corridors while lessons are taking place, and, most importantly, talk to our pupils. They are our greatest ambassadors and will tell you, in their own words, what makes Nishkam such a welcoming, safe, inclusive and peaceful place to learn.

At Nishkam, we want every pupil to feel known, valued, loved, nurtured and supported, and to leave us with the confidence, courage and compassion to make their own positive contribution to the world.

Whether you are considering Nishkam for your child, are a prospective member of staff, or simply want to learn more about our school, you will always be very welcome here.

If you would like any further information or would like to arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We would be delighted to welcome you to our Nishkam family.

Mrs Emma Wilks

Headteacher

Nishkam High School is a Sikh School with multi-faith ethos and demonstrates this by positively nurturing children of all faiths and those of no particular belief. The Sikh dharam (faith or religious responsibility) is emphatic in respecting all faiths and not seeking converts, instead focussing on maximising our contribution towards a cohesive society. Nishkam High School aims to produce lifelong learners, confident individuals and responsible, compassionate citizens.

We believe that all children can, and will, achieve. We are unrelenting in our pursuit of excellence, both in the classroom and beyond. Our GCSE and A Level results consistently reflect this. Those outcomes provide compelling evidence to support our virtues-led approach to education.

At the same time, we deliver both our learning and pastoral care through a language of shared virtues. We are committed to the belief that that the fostering of human virtues forms the foundation of all goodness. For our pupils, that means that our school is a safe and caring environment – one in which they can enjoy their education.

Our approach helps to provide a strong moral compass for our pupils that enables them to fully understand the choices that will face them in life and the best path for them to follow. They also become self-reflective, can build strong, meaningful relationships and more fully understand their responsibilities to the global family and all creation.

As all school leaders will tell you, a visit to the school will bring all these words to life. Our pupils are our best ambassadors and they will happily share their experiences with you. Do, please, contact the school if you would like to see our school in person.
