Welcome to the Sixth Form

A message from the Head of Sixth Form

Nishkam School West London is a Sikh ethos, multi-faith school for boys and girls aged 4 to 19, part of the multi-academy Nishkam School Trust.  Our Sixth Form provides a superb academic and holistic offering to both current Nishkam students and candidates from other schools.

Our Sixth Form is centred around our faith inspired and virtues led approach and offers a small and supportive environment, focused on academic excellence and producing young adults who contribute positively to their community.   We provide an outstanding learning environment with a highly dedicated and knowledgeable staff body.  Teacher-student ratios are small so that your child is well known, their learning preferences understood, and individualised learning plans created to ensure their progress and academic success.  Study takes place in a modern professional learning environment in the Sixth Form Study Centre. Here pupils benefit from having state-of-the-art classrooms and exclusive use of study areas that are equipped with a wealth of facilities and resources to support their study and independent research.  The school also provides access to online learning platforms, including UpLearn and Seneca, which further facilitates excellent academic progress.  This collaborative and dynamic learning environment prepares our students for the best universities and apprenticeships in the country.

Life in our Sixth Form extends beyond the academic with a wide variety of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities available to students.  A number of our students participate in The Brilliant Club Scholar’s programme which offers challenging courses aimed to develop student understanding beyond the curriculum requirements. The programme seeks to develop key university-preparedness skills including critical thinking, subject knowledge, written communication, and university self-efficacy.  In addition, the programme gives students the opportunity to experience what studying at university is really like. Students are also encouraged to complete online MOOCs (university level courses) designed to extend and develop their knowledge beyond the A-level syllabus and allow them to explore topics of interest that prepare them for choosing the best university courses or future careers. In addition, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) will be offered to pupils in the Spring Term of Year 12 so students can gain more accreditation for applications to further education.  Students can also develop their leadership skills by organising their own academic societies and becoming ambassadors for the Sixth Form as part of the student council.  Participation in many competitions such as the Biology and Physics Olympiad and the Cambridge and Oxford Essay competitions are encouraged, and all students undertake educational trips to prestigious museums and galleries to extend their learning. All these experiences help to develop our pupils into independent learners equipped with the leadership and communication skills to tackle the demands of further education or employment.

Sixth Form is also a crucial time for young people as they look towards their further education and career opportunities.  Our students follow an expertly sequenced careers programme, and each student receives independent careers advise from an industry expert to help facilitate informed-decision making.  Students have access to the Unifrog platform, a comprehensive careers platform, designed to give students information about careers, university courses, apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and work experience opportunities. Students also use the platform to collate evidence that they will need to create strong personal statements and applications for University or apprenticeship routes.
